Martha Laverne Ritchie Palmes Farmer, age 85, of Versailles, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.
She was born December 20, 1924, in Versailles, a daughter of Jess and Rosie Bell Wood Ritchie. Martha was united in marriage to Raymond Palmes in July of 1942, and to this union their daughter, Lois, was born. Raymond was killed in action on December 1, 1944, while serving his country in World War II.
Martha was a graduate of Versailles High School. She was employed with Lear Jet and Coleman's both located in Wichita, Kansas.
She looked forward to raising her flower and vegetable gardens each year. She also was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. In her younger years she enjoyed playing the guitar.
Martha resided in Kansas for most of her adult life.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Archie Hansen of Gardner, Kansas; one brother, Clyde Ritchie of Lexington; three sisters, Osa Mae Hall of Versailles; Novaline Morgan of Odessa and Goldie Hammel of Sedalia; three grandchildren, Kelly Sayyad of Leesburg, Virginia; Clark Hansen of Auburn, Kansas and Clint Hansen of Richmond, Virginia; six great grandchildren, Kegan, Megan, Conner, Jake, Kaylee and Malec, also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Freddie Ritchie and Vernon "Doc" Ritchie and one sister, Eunice Jenkins.
Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, March 10, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles with Bro. Mike Homan officiating. Interment will be in the Ritchie Cemetery south of Versailles. The family will receive friends from 11:30 A.M. - 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles.
