She was born July 24, 1938, in Miller County, a daughter of Charlie and Treva Mae Blankenship Platter, who preceded her in death. On February 20, 1966, at the First Baptist Church in Jefferson City, Marlis was united in marriage to Melvin Meyer, who survives at the home.
She was a 1955 graduate of Russellville High School.
Following graduation, Marlis worked a short time at Central Hatchery and from 1959-1966 was a part-time checker at Kroger's in Jefferson City. In January of 1956, she began working at the Division of Employment Security, retiring in 2001, after 43 year of employment.

Marlis volunteered at two nursing homes, receiving the volunteer of the year in 2003 from the Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.
In her spare time she enjoyed shopping, antiquing, sewing and crafts. However, her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her husband of 48 years, she is survived by two children and their spouses, Michael and Aimee Meyer of Raytown and Marilyn and Loren Broaddus of Springfield; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Otto Jr. Goldammer of Russellville; a brother, Charles D. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 18, at the First Baptist Church in Jefferson City with Dr. Doyle Sager officiating. A graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. at the Enloe Cemetery west of Russellville.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 17, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. Memorial contributions are suggested to Summit Villa Activity Fund.
