Marie A. Holsten Ehlers, age 97, formerly of Stover, passed away, Wednesday, March 26, 2014 , at her home in Sedalia. She was born December 26, 1916 , in Stover, the oldest child of Rudy and Emma Hagenah Viebrock. She was baptized January 14, 1917 , and confirmed March 29, 1931 , at Christ Lutheran Church in Stover. The confirmation verse chosen was Colossians 3:17, "In Whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving Thanks to God the Father through Him." On October 20, 1935 , Marie married Walter G. Holsten, who preceded her in death June 24, 1978 . On July 1, 1983 , Marie married Clarence A. Ehlers, who preceded her in death June 11, 1995 . She was the last member of the Stover High School graduating class of 1935. Marie was a homemaker busy raising her three children. She was also a seamstress, working at Smithsons, Inc., in Stover, retiring after 26 years of employment. Marie was a faithful and active member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Stover, where she taught Sunday school, was a member of LWML, along with serving on various other committees at the church. She was an avid sports fan, whether it was a ball game on the TV or watching one of her grandchildren’s sporting events. Marie was known for her wonderful hospitality, her concern for others, her hard work, her passion for Christ and most of all her love for her family. She is survived by daughter, Janet Stratton of Sedalia; stepson, C.L. Ehlers and wife Judy of Cole Camp; daughters-in-law, Kaye Holsten, Independence and Joelle Holsten Jones and husband Ray of Dixon; brother, Calvin Viebrock of Stover; sister, Irma Kroeschen and husband Ray of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren, Tim, Mark, Donna Jo, Chuck, Chris, Dana, Elizabeth, Mike, Lisa, Camille, Jenna, Alan and Julie, twenty-two great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, along with nieces, nephews and many friends. Her parents, two sons, Darrell and John Holsten, one stepson, Hubert Ehlers, son-in-law, Danny Stratton, two sisters, Mildred Nolting and Emmagene Witte and grandson, Jim, also preceded her in death. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29 , at the St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Stover with Vicar Gerald Kurka officiating. Interment will be in St. Pauls Lutheran Cemetery in Stover. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Pauls Lutheran Church or School.
