Maggie L. Simmons, age 82, of Stover, passed away, Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Tipton Oak Manor in Tipton. She was born November 14, 1931, in Kansas, a daughter of James Fredrick and Maggie Lou Cox Drury. On December 3, 1945, in Versailles, Maggie was united in marriage to Virgil Simmons, who preceded her in death in August of 1992. After selling their farm in Kansas, Maggie's parents purchased land in the Minnow Branch area near Stover. Maggie resided on her farm south of Stover until her health began to fail her a few years ago, then she moved to Tipton to be near her son. Maggie worked at Primo Pants Factory in Versailles and retired from Ralston Purina/Cargill in California. She was an accomplished seamstress, especially when it came to piecing quilts. She made several quilts for each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as giving them as wedding and anniversary gifts to other family members and friends. Maggie enjoyed visiting with her neighbors back home and truly enjoyed the companionship of her fellow residents at the nursing home. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Ruth Simmons of Tipton; a brother and sister-in-law, Jim F. and Elaine Drury of Stover; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Alta Mae Kampe of Cleveland and Linda and Frank Hayes of Sedalia; four grandchildren and their spouses, David Simmons, Wilma and Wes Mefford, Margaret Tuttle and Jennifer and Kelly Kohler all of Tipton, seven great grandchildren, Kelsey Simmons of Murrieta, California; Brice Simmons and wife Callie of Lake Ozark, Rylyee Mefford, Michael and Bailey Tuttle and Colin and Kaylie Kohler all of Tipton; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Boyd, Floyd and Charles Drury, one sister, Mary Barker, one granddaughter, Pamela Simmons and one grandson-in-law, Dean Tuttle.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 16, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with Rev. Brad Homan officiating. Interment will be in the Stover Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Special Learning Center in Jefferson City.
