Luther D. Covington, age 71, of Stover, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2016 at his home.
He was born July 1, 1945, in Gideon, Missouri a son of Owen and Vernadine Covington, who preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Lees Summit High School. Luther was a Marine Corps veteran, serving his country in the Vietnam War, receiving a Purple Heart.
He owned and operated a construction clean up company in Kansas City, contracting throughout the area for work on construction sites.
Luther retired to the Stover community where he enjoyed his neighbors and being a part of the First Baptist Church in Stover.
Survivors include one daughter, Kimberly Covington; Tulsa, Oklahoma; special friends, Beverly Grothe, Climax Springs; Gary and Kathy Flockhart, Cole Camp; Marvin and Patty Schull, Stover; along with his church family and two step sisters.
In keeping with his wishes, he was cremated.
A memorial service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 7, at the First Baptist Church in Stover with Rev. Ron Satterwhite officiating.
Inurnment, with military honors, will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield.
