Lorena Meta Holsten, age 99, of Stover, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at North Kansas City Hospital.
She was born November 26, 1910, in the Stover community, a daughter of William J. and Lisettie Kipp Koester, both deceased. She was baptized December 4, 1910, and confirmed April 13, 1924, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Stover. The confirmation verse chosen was Revelations 3:20, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into him and eat with him, and he with me." Lorena was united in marriage to Otto Holsten on February 25, 1934, at St. Pauls parsonage. Otto preceded her in death June 24, 1977.
As a young woman she worked in various homes on the Ward Parkway in Kansas City. She later was employed at Smithsons Inc., in Stover. For most of Lorena's life she was a homemaker, busy helping her husband on their farm and caring for her children. She was an accomplished seamstress and even after a long day of sewing quilts at work, she always had time to make new dresses for her girls.
She was a lifelong member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, where she was a charter member of the St. Pauls Jr. Aid and later a very active member of the Sr. Aid. She faithfully attended church and Bible study as long as her health allowed. She also looked forward to her daily reading of her "Portals of Prayer." Lorena always managed to stay busy, she enjoyed going places and playing cards with her friends.
