Linda Hancock

August 27, 1952 — March 14, 2016

Linda Lorraine Hancock, age 63, of Stover, passed away Monday, March 14, 2016, at the St. Louis University Hospital.
She was born August 27, 1952, in Independence, a daughter of Samuel Preston and Lorraine Hulda Meyer Webb. On August 15, 1981, at the Unity Temple at the Plaza in Kansas City, Linda was united in marriage to Mitch Hancock, who survives at their home.
She was a graduate of Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, receiving her degree in Education.
While living in Independence, she worked at Hallmark Cards in Kansas City. After receiving her teaching degree, she worked in an elementary school in Kansas City for one year.
She moved to the Stover area, where she was hired as an elementary teacher with the Morgan County R-I school district. For several years she taught third grade; however, her true passion was working with the students that needed extra attention. She spent many years in the Gifted Program and the Remedial classes; providing the encouragement and time the students needed to grasp the material they were working on. Out of the classroom she tutored students who were home bound; often going where others teachers hesitated to go. In later years she assisted with the Parents as Teachers program at the school, before retiring in 2002.
Linda was scout leader with the Boy Scout Troop 23 in Stover for many years, where she helped her sons, along with other boys, achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. She was a member of the Missouri State Retired Teachers Association. Linda was also a faithful member of the Unity at the Lake Church in Sunrise Beach, where she taught Sunday school.
Linda and Mitch enjoyed spending time at the lake, where they could go camping and fish. For the past 20 years, she and her family made a canoe trip on the Current River a regular weekend event. She also loved to travel, and had enjoyed many getaways the past few years. However, her greatest enjoyment came from being with her family, especially spending time with her grandson.
In addition to her husband of 34 years, she is survived by two sons, Jason Hancock of Independence and Forrest Hancock and wife Elizabeth of Warrensburg; one grandson, Samuel Hancock, along with other relatives and many friends.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Clifford Eugene Webb and Duane Gilbert Webb.
A Celebration of Linda's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at the Unity at the Lake Church on Highway 5 in Sunrise Beach with Rev. James Stacey officiating.
The family will receive friends from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Unity at the Lake Church.
