Leonard Lee Clemens

March 6, 1933 — December 15, 2009

Leonard Lee Clemens, 76, of Lebanon, passed away following a sudden illness Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, in Independence, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Carroll County, MO on Mar. 6, 1933 to Roscoe and Anna Halterman Clemens, who preceded him in death.
To celebrate his 20th birthday, he married Juanita Fry on March 6, 1953, who survives at their home.
He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Germany. He was a steel worker at Armco Steel in Kansas City, MO. After leaving Armco Steel, he established himself as a "jack of all trades" and a general contractor and started the Clemens Remodeling Co. for more than 20 years prior to retiring on 70 acres in Versailles, in 1979.
He served as Assistant Scout Master for Troop 30 sharing his land and skills with many scouts over the years. He also enjoyed "tinkering", water skiing, fishing, boating, having coffee with the "guys", taking the grandkids on tractor rides and riding his quad cycle, which he rode in several parades.
He volunteered his time and love for people at the Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles, MO, and Christian Health Care Center-South Facility, Lebanon, MO, where his mother-in-law, Mary Franco, currently resides.
Survivors include two daughters, Anita Clemens Brown and her husband, Lane, of Independence, MO; Terre Clemens Banks and her husband, Donnie, of Lebanon; two sons, Chris Clemens and his wife, Pamela, of Lebanon, and David Clemens and his wife, Laura, of Lebanon; 11 grandchildren, Justin Banks of St. Louis, Genesis Banks of Blue Springs, Adam Brown of Independence, Gabe Brown and his wife, Courtney, of Independence, Rachel Clemens Baker and her husband, Jeremy, of Springfield, MO, Erin Clemens of Exeter, Neb., Jordan, Brett and Andy Clemens of Gravois Mills, MO and Tanner Roy and Shyla Clemens of Lebanon; five brothers, Donald Clemens and his wife, Betty, of Independence, Kenneth Clemens and his wife, Sharon, of Sunrise Beach, MO, Eldon Clemens of Florida, Curtis Clemens of Odessa, MO, Loren Clemens and his wife, Judy, of Gladstone, MO, one sister, Marilyn Clemens Stem and her husband, Bob, of Florida; and many relatives and friends.
His brother, PFC Richard Dean Clemens, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be on Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and celebration of his life to follow at the Scrivner -Morrow Funeral Home, Versailles, MO with Rev. Larry Brown officiating. Interment will be at the Wakenda Cemetery near Hardin, MO on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to a local chapter of the DAV or Boy Scout Troop 30 Summer Camp Fund in Versailles, Missouri.
