Lena G. Lewis Burton Taylor, age 80, of Stover, died Saturday, December 3, 2011, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia.
She was born January 9, 1931, in Smithton, a daughter of Joseph Milton and Margaret Frances White Lewis.
Lena married Garlan Burton and to this union three children were born. On April 12, 1974, at the Stover First Baptist Church, Lena married Lee Taylor, who preceded her in death April 21, 1992.
As a young woman, Lena worked at Lamy's Manufacturing and later alongside her husband at Burton's Cabinet Shop, both located in Sedalia. She retired from the United States Post Office in Stover after many years of employment.
She was an active and faithful member of the Stover United Methodist Church. She served on the Stover Cemetery Board, the Golden Age Living Center Guild and as a Morgan County Election Judge.
Lena was always staying busy, whether it was visiting with family and friends, crocheting or baking something to give to a neighbor.
Survivors include three children and their spouses, Randy and Lena Burton of Juneau, Alaska; Harlan and Denise Burton of Sedalia and Sue and Dale Phillips of Smithton; four brothers, Walter Lewis of Kansas City; Kenneth Lewis of the state of California; Harold Lewis of the state of Mississippi and Lloyd Lewis of Kansas City; two sisters, Bea Cole of Independence and Virginia Paul of Harrisonville; five grandchildren, Heather Kessing, Aimee Burton, Wesley Burton, Casey Phillips and Stacy Green, twelve great grandchildren, Cheyenne, Dustin and Dillon Kessing and Dalton Perry, Ashley McNeal, Savannah O'Malley and Harley Burton, Chastity LeGrant, Ethan, Riley and Mackenzie Green and Ariana Burton, also nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Roy, Bob and Cecil Lewis, three sisters, Luetta Novak, Cora Lewis and Velma Shackles and one great grandchild, Rayden Burton.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, December 7, at the Stover United Methodist Church with Rev. Diane Cutler officiating. Interment will be in the Stover Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:30-6:30 P.M. Tuesday, December 6, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Cancer Care Center of Central Missouri at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
