Laverne Augusta Morff Berendzen, age 79, of Marys Home, died Friday, October 8, 2010, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.
She was born August 6, 1931, in the Teal Bottom area near Henley, a daughter of John and Theresa Loethen Morff, who are both deceased.
On April 27, 1948, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in St. Thomas, she married Jake F. Berendzen, who preceded her in death April 15, 1995.
Laverne was a cook at the Cole R-V school in Eugene for 26 years.
She was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Marys Home.
Laverne loved to work in her garden and tend to her cattle on her farm. She was an avid baseball fan. However, her greatest enjoyment came from being with her family, especially watching her grandchildren play sports.
Survivors include five children and their spouses, Cathy and Freddy Klindt of Eugene; Nancy and Paul Whitney of Ponca City, Oklahoma; Darrell and Kathy Berendzen of Jefferson City; Brenda and John Rush of Marys Home and Sheri and Todd Koestner of Russellville; two daughters-in-law, Debbie Berendzen of Jefferson City and Betty Berendzen of Marys Home; a son-in-law, Larry Belt of Henley; two sisters, Emma Schulte of Marys Home and Marie Holtmeyer of Jefferson City; a sister-in-law, Regina Morff of Jefferson City; a brother-in-law, Raymond Berendzen of Ohio; fourteen grandchildren, Sid and Lesli Belt of Henley; Melanie Blochberger and husband Scott and Ashley Doerhoff and husband Gary all of Eugene; Kyle Berendzen and wife Angie of Jefferson City; Cristin Berendzen of St. Charles; Olivia and Jacob Rush of Marys Home; Adam, Kendra and Cameron Berendzen of Marys Home and Sara, Emma and Anna Koestner of Russellville; eight great grandchildren, Cayla Berendzen, Lily Berendzen, Andrea and Trent Blochberger, Blake Doerhoff, Logan and Ryder Belt and Brayden Belt, also nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Laverne was also preceded in death by one daughter, Janice Belt, four sons, Kenneth, David, Harry and Mitch Berendzen, two grandchildren, Michael and Jody Klindt, two sisters, Sally Biffle and Arlene Hudak and four brothers, Lawrence, Felix, Victor and Barney Morff.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 11, at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church with Father Pat Shortt officiating. Interment will be in Our Lady of the Snows Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:30 - 7:00 P.M. Sunday, October 10, at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church with the Rosary said at 3:30 P.M. and a Prayer Service at 6:30 P.M.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Gateway Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the Marys Home Relay for Life Team.
