Lane Jeffery Holem

October 14, 2003 — September 5, 2015

Lane Jeffery Holem, age 11, of Florence, passed away September 5, 2015, of injuries sustained in a tractor accident.
He was born October 14, 2003, in Sedalia, a son of Jeffery and Angela Dittmer Holem.
Lane was in the sixth grade at Morgan County R-I middle school in Stover, where he was on the Honor Roll. Lane had devoted this past summer to farming and planning his future cattle operation. He spent much time watching videos on how to run his cattle operation. He spent every day he could on the farm, in a tractor or at the sale barn, and raising and working with his bottle calf “miss pretty.” He also loved driving the John Deere Gator. In previous summers he played baseball and soccer. He played basketball, as it was his favorite sport.
He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Florence, where he was baptized with his dad on February 8, 2004. He enjoyed participating in the church activities.
Lane was active in the Kountry Kids 4-H Club, receiving the Grand Champion Bacon at the Morgan County Fair and sixth place at the Missouri State Fair this year. He enjoyed showing swine and was the recipient of the Jr. Herdsman award at the 2015 Morgan County Fair.
Lane was a “Farm Boy”, who loved John Deere tractors and playing on the gates and panels with his cousin Abby. His passion was cattle and dreamed of being in the cattle business one day. He was a mentor to his younger brother Weston. He helped him show pigs, raise his bottle calf, and loved him very much. He was also gifted musically, which was evident in his ability to play the drums at such a young age. When he wasn’t outside, he enjoyed watching “Dukes of Hazzard,” “Andy Griffith,” and Kansas City Chiefs football. Lane was a young man who made his family so proud and was wise beyond his years.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Jeff and Mendy Holem of Stover; his mother and her fiancé, Angela Holem and Kevin Sumner of Mora; his brother, Weston Holem of the home; three step siblings, Gage, Koye and Shae Fischer of Stover; his paternal grandparents, John and Sandy Holem of Stover; his maternal grandparents, Richard and Irene Dittmer of Smithton; step-grandparents, Jim and Pat Marriott of Stover and John “Papa J” Sumner of Versailles; paternal great grandparents, John and Footsie Holem of Stover and Norene Hazlett of Bunceton; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 10, at St. John United Church of Christ in Florence with Pastor Larry Gallamore officiating. Interment will be in St. John UCC Cemetery in Florence.
Visitation is from 3:00 -8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with the family receiving friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kountry Kids 4-H Club.
