Kenneth Martens, age 82, of Stover, passed away Monday, October 5, 2015 at his home.
He was born February 10, 1933, in Sedalia, the only child of Fred P.H. and Pauline Ida Vajen Martens. He was baptized on April 6, 1933 and confirmed on March 30, 1947 at the Christ Lutheran Church in Stover.
He was a 1952 graduate of the Morgan Co R-1 School in Stover.
Kenneth served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He was united in marriage to Mildred Naomi Wilson on July 3, 1957, who survives of the home.
Kenneth owned Martens Print Shop in Stover. He also stayed busy working for the Versailles Leaderstatesman and the Morgan County Press as a line typist, and Fajen & Blair Gun stock factory. He retired from the Morgan County R-1 School System in Stover.
He was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stover.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren and working in the yard.
In addition to his wife of 58 years Mildred Naomi, Kenneth is survived by one daughter, Kenda and husband Robert Fergerson all of Stover; five grandchildren, Tara, Tyler, and Natalie Fergerson of Eldon and Sean and Brystol Fergerson of Stover; two great grandchildren, Paxton Bailey and Gunner Fergerson; one sister-in-law, Thelma Younce; and one niece, Carmella Cramer both of Independence.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one infant son.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Gerald Kurka officiated. The song selections will be "Daddy's Hands," "I Know That My Redeemer Lives," and "Amazing Grace." Interment is in the Versailles Cemetery with full military honors. Tyler Fergerson, Jared Fergerson, Jody Fergerson, James Vajen, Paul Fergerson, and Benji Wilson served as pallbearers. Sean Fergerson, Brystol Fergerson, Carmella Cramer, Tara Fergerson, Natalie Fergerson, Dennis Mefford, Wesley Mefford, and Judy Sittner were honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
