Kathleen "Kay" Marie Dornan

Kathleen Marie "Kay" Dornan, age 92, of Versailles, died Saturday, December 26, 2009, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.
She was born December 30, 1916, in Versailles a daughter of Peter Jerome and Priscilla L. McClanahan McDonough. On November 26, 1942, Kay was united in marriage to James Mitchell "Mitch" Dornan at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eldon. Mitch preceded her in death February 18, 1984.
She was a graduate of Versailles High School and Sedalia Business College. She had worked at the Bank of Versailles and later for Wini's Fashions, both in Versailles.
Kay served as President of the local and county PTA, was President of Evenin Sorosis, and President of the Women's Civic Club for six years. She was Secretary of the Morgan County Historical Society for several years. In 1996, she was the recipient of the Citizen of the Year award from the City of Versailles.
She was an active and faithful member of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Versailles. In 1963 she became President and Treasurer of the St. Philip Benizi Altar Guild, and served in that position until her health declined in recent years. Her ministry to others reached far beyond the church, she could be seen daily visiting with the homebound, driving those in need to doctors' appointments or running errands for those who did not have transportation. Kay truly enjoyed doing for others, whether it be her family, friends or a stranger in need. Kay is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sparkle and Raymond Morrison of Versailles; a daughter-in-law, Emma Dornan of Versailles; grandsons, Brian Morrison, Gregg Morrison and wife,Kelli, Jimmy Dornan, Robbie Dornan and partner, Ellis Collins and Danny Dornan, granddaughter-in-law, Amy Dornan, great grandchildren, Mitchell, Reagan, Sam and Ben Dornan and Brooke Morrison, also nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son, James M. "Jim" Dornan, sister, Eileen Friedewald and
brothers, Peter J. and Samuel M. McDonough.
Private services were held at Old St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie, with Father C.D. Ryan officiating. Interment followed in Old St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Laurie with her grandsons, Brian Morrison, Gregg Morrison, Jimmy Dornan, Robbie Dornan, Danny Dornan and Mitchell Dornan serving as casket bearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church or Old St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery.
