Josephine Barbara Gramlich

April 2, 1920 — March 10, 2016

Josephine Barbara Gramlich, 95, of Pilot Grove passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Katy Manor in Pilot Grove, Missouri. She was one of 9 children born to George W. and Julia Zeller Twenter in Clear Creek, Missouri.

She married Paul Arthur Gramlich on April 15, 1942 and he preceded her in death November 17, 2010 after 68 years of marriage.

Josephine was a hardworking, responsible person. After her mother's death she assumed the responsibility of helping with her younger siblings. After her marriage to Paul she was in charge of day-to-day operation of the farm while he was working away. She did the plowing with a team of horses, planted, cultivated, fed the hogs, milked the cows, gathered the eggs and took care of the chickens, planted a large garden, and took care of her 3 small children. When she wasn't working outside she would be quilting and sewing. She loved the farm.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul; son Richard G. Gramlich; brothers Gilbert, Julius, and Cletus Twenter; sisters Loretta Litteken and Dorothy Twenter; and son-in-law Bill Hill.

She is survived by daughters Barbara Hill of Cape Girardeau, Julia Hazlett and her husband Jerry of Pilot Grove; sister Georgia Kohl and her husband Milton, Hilda Burchett, Quineth Henry; sister-in-law Earlene Twenter; brother-in-law John Litteken; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 AM Monday, March 14, 2016 at St. John's Catholic Church in Clear Creek with burial immediately following in the St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-5 PM Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Pilot Grove with the rosary beginning at 2:00 PM.
