Johnie Ray, age 81, of Gravois Mills, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2025, at his home.
He was born on September 5, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri to Johnie Nelson and Ethel B. (Suddith) Ray.
On January 31, 1960, he was united in marriage to Julia Ray, who preceded him in death on June 14, 2016.
Johnie was known for being a hard worker and having an infectious, loud laugh. He provided for his family by running his own dock building and repair company. He also kept busy volunteering with the Gravois Mills Fire Protection and doing the Lake Shore Clean Up.
In his spare time, he liked feeding the cats, fish, and ducks. He also liked to go fishing, especially with his grandkids and great grandkids. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family.
Left to carry on his legacy is his son, JR Ray and wife Sachel of Versailles; two daughters and their husbands, Sherry and Steve Christiansen of Gravois Mills and Anita and John Blakley of Laurie; eleven grandchildren, John, Joseph, William, Chris, Nicole, Khristina, Jacque, Amanda, Julia, Johnie, and Alexia; several great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Tina Waddell and Jacqueline "Jacque" Higginbothan and a sister, Ethel Smith.
In keeping with his wishes, he was cremated and a memorial service will be planned for the spring.
