John M. Miles

John M. (J.M.) Miles, age 78, of Stover, passed away Sunday afternoon, September 21, 2014, in Stover.
He was born July 21, 1936, in Nebo, Illinois, a son of Roy and Lorene Haynes Miles. John was united in marriage to Carol Jean Wadick, on July 20, 1957, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cole Camp.
He was a 1954 graduate of Stover High School. John obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla in 1961.
He also served his country in the United States Navy as an Aerologist Mate First Class during the Korean War, stationed in Panama.
For 31 years, he was a chemical engineer for Phillips 66, working in Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Belgium and Texas.
Following his retirement he and Carol decided to return to Central Missouri and call Stover their home.
In retirement, John stayed busy serving his community. He was a charter member of the Board of Directors for the Stover Community Center and a member of the Stover Lions Club. He was also a member of the Galloway-Martens American Legion Post 343 in Stover and served on the Stover City Council for five years.
He was a faithful member of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Versailles, where he was active in the Knights of Columbus.
He was a gifted woodworker, spending his spare time creating beautiful gifts for family and friends. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. His greatest enjoyment, however, came from the time he could spend with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by four children and their spouses: Robin and Dara Miles of New York, New York, Dawn and Tom Rich of Lakeway, Texas, Eileen and Mark Fox of Eastland, Texas, and Andrew Miles of Lubbock, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Peggy Miles of West Plains; eight grandchildren, Garrett and Jansyn Spradling, Eric Miles and fiancée Ashley Tucker, Sarah Miles and fiancé Richard Cole III, Patrick and Melanie Rich and Meredith Miles; and two great grandchildren, Stacie and Stephanie Silva, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, R.C. Miles, and one grandson, Gannon Spradling.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with the Rosary prayed at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 25, at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Versailles with Father C.D. Ryan officiating.
Graveside services, with military honors, will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 25, in the Stover Cemetery.
