John Gregory Fry died unexpectedly on Monday, September 9, 2024, at his home in N. Kansas City.
He was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Boonville on May 9, 1963. He shared that birthday with his older brother Ted. He was the son of Charles and Alma Orscheln, Fry, both deceased, of Tipton, MO. John lost a nephew, Sean Fry in 2009.
John graduated from Tipton H.S. He thoroughly loved his time as a defensive back with the Cardinal Football team. He attended Central Missouri State University for a time and later became a facilities manager for Avis and Capp vehicle rental centers in Dallas and Kansas City.
John was an avid sports fan attending and watching many Chiefs, Mizzou games, Royals, and Cardinal games while following numerous other sports. Despite his severe hearing loss, he adapted to some extent by reading lips, using closed captions, using special headsets, and turning the volume way up so he could follow the action.
John was an excellent cook, turning out BBQ in the KC tradition, and perfecting his side dishes in the tradition of his mom, and through exposure to new and unique foods.
He maintained his relationships with many long-standing friends over the years.
John is survived by his brother Ted Fry, and wife Mary, of Tebbetts, sister, Charlene, and husband Ken, Albin of Springfield, nieces and nephews surviving include: Rene' , and Gus, Haeckel, Jefferson City, Carrie, and husband Kyle, Allenbrand Olando, FL, and Kurt Albin, and wife Sarah, Lee's Summit. John is also survived by his long-term close friend Patricia Lopez, Kansas, MO.
Visitation will take place on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. at the Meisenheimer-Page-Dady Funeral Home in Tipton, MO. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Father Anthony Viviano officiating. Burial will follow Mass at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery in Tipton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tipton RVI H.S. Football program or the Hearing Loss Association of America.
