Jim Douglas

August 2, 1954 — August 28, 2024

Florence

Jim Douglas, age 70, of Florence passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at his home.

It was on the 2nd day of August in 1954, in Athens, Ohio that James Roscoe and Pauline Frances (Capps) Douglas welcomed their son, James Leon.

He was a 1973 graduate of Morgan County R-1 Stover High School.

On December 3, 1976, in Stover, Jim was united in marriage to Sally Ann Carver.

After 37 years of service, Jim retired from Maxion Wheels as a forklift operator for their shipping and receiving department.

Jim was an ornery soul. Always pestering those he loved.

Spending time with his family was the most important thing to Jim. He liked to go camping and fishing with them, doing anything with the grandkids put a smile on his face. Jim also enjoyed going for drives and going to surplus stores with his wife, Sally. He enjoyed deer hunting, riding his “mule” (side-by-side) to the creek, collecting steins and dye cast motorcycles and cars, picking up walnuts, playing pitch and “shooting the moon”, going to farm auctions, watching late night westerns, and claiming to make “the best chili in the world”.

Jim spent a lot of time riding his Harley. He was a member of HOG for 20 years.

He was an animal lover. He liked raising horses and cattle. He also loved cats and all “his” dogs, but especially his boy Duke.

Left to carry on his legacy is his wife, Sally, of 47 years, his sons, Jesse Leon Douglas and wife Rusty K. of Florence and James William Harlan Douglas and husband Joe of Olathe, Kansas; his daughter, Amanda Lean Douglas and husband Kenny Holmes of Florence; six grandchildren, Montanna (Tanner), Presly (Kaleb), Landon (Kara), Kaila, Kendrick, and Melodie; two great grandchildren, India and Finley; two brothers, Edgar Douglas and significant other Karen of Sedalia and Steve Douglas of Cole Camp; four sisters, Kay Rogers of Stover, Christina Downs of Sedalia, Tammy Mills and husband Paul of Windsor, and Shawna Comfort and husband John of Sedalia; three sisters-in-law, Susan Nash of Stover, Sara Couch and husband Tom of Barnett, and Lillian Blacksten and husband Ronnie of Stover; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Florence Joanne McFail and husband Robert; sister-in-law, Linda Douglas; brothers-in-law, Ron Rogers, Richard Downs and Dickie Lange; nephew, Christopher Douglas, niece, Jennifer Busing; father-in-law, Lee Carver; mother-in-law, Donnie Anderson; and brothers-in-law, J.W. Nash and Steve Carver.

Funeral services for Jim will be 12:00 noon Friday, September 6, 2024, at the Scrivner-Page-Dady Funeral Home in Stover. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery in Florence.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Scrivner-Page-Dady Funeral Home in Stover.
