James Franklin "Frank" Vansell, age 75, of Gravois Mills, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2014, at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach.
He was born November 18, 1938, in Crest, located in Benton County, a son of Charles E. and Georgia Miller Vansell. On June 5, 1959, at the parsonage of Rev. Jim Delong, Frank was united in marriage to Lois Stevenson, who survives at their home.
He was a 1956 graduate of Stover High School. Frank also served his country in the Army National Guard for six years.
Frank worked as a meat cutter for the Locker Plant in Versailles until they closed. He retired from Gates Rubber Company in Versailles in 2001, after more than 20 years of employment.
He attended the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and the Ritchie Baptist Church, south of Versailles.
Following his retirement, Frank took up woodworking, and could often be found in his shop making miniature wood furniture and frames out of barnwood. He also looked forward to spending time at the lake fishing.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by seven siblings and their spouses, Frances Wilcox of Sedalia; Ruth Williams of Stover; William and Martha Vansell of Lee's Summit; Raymond and Bonnie Vansell of Stover; Leonard and Linda Vansell of Blue Springs; Patty and Don Smith of Oak Grove and Darrell and Debbie Vansell of Versailles; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Vansell of Kansas City and Sue Vansell Hartzell of Cole Camp; 24 nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces and nephews, along with other relatives and many friends.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Kenneth Alvin, Clayton and Larry Wayne Vansell; one sister, Hellen Vansell, three sisters-in-law, Marcella, Lucille and Sue Vansell and two brothers-in-law, Jim Wilcox and Lee Williams, three nephews and two nieces.
Funeral services will be 12:00 noon Thursday, November 6, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Richard Willis officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be in the Versailles Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home on Thursday.
