James Leroy Shikles

James Leroy Shikles, age 82, of Boonville, died Sunday, July 10, 2011, at Ashley Manor Care Center in Boonville.
He was born January 13, 1929, on the family farm in Enon, near Russellville, a son of Paul Freeman and Velma Irene Ackers Shikles, who preceded him in death. On October 23, 1948, at the Enon Baptist Church parsonage, Leroy was united in marriage to Betty L. Glenn, who survives at their home.
He was a 1947 graduate of Russellville High School.
Leroy was a route salesman and district manager for Guys Foods in Boonville, retiring after 30 years of employment.
Leroy served on the Boonville City Council, was a member of the F.O.E. in Boonville and a charter member of the F.O.E. in California. He was a lifelong member of the Enon Baptist Church.
Leroy loved to work on the family farm, where he raised cattle and enjoyed being outdoors, as long as his health allowed.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Diane Dorian of Houston, Texas; Rick Shikles and wife Dee of Boonville; Lynn Sherwood and husband John of Joplin; Carol Stretz and husband Hans of Boonville; Julie Friedrich of Boonville and Janie Harris and husband David of Kansas City; fourteen grandchildren, Grant and Paige Dorian, Heather Carney, Chris and Brett Shikles, Johanna Johns, Blake and Sarah Groves, Clinton Sherwood, Robert, Tyler and Hannah Stretz, Jared Friedrich and Gracie Imhoff, nine great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 12, at the William-Woods Funeral Home in Boonville.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 13, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville with Rev. Lewis Odneal officiating. Interment will be in the Enloe Cemetery west of Russellville.
The family will also receive friends from 12:00 Noon until service time on Tuesday, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville.
