James Robert Koester, age 37, of St. Louis, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 23, 2015 at his home.
He was born September 19, 1977, in Jefferson City, the son of Robert and Linda Avey Koester, who survive in Stover. James was baptized November 13, 1977 and confirmed April 12, 1992, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stover. The confirmation verse chosen was John 8:31-32, "To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." He married Julie Daniels and to this union, sons Tucker and Tanner were born. On October 9, 2004, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, James was united in marriage to Jill Wilcox, and to this union Jace was born. Jill survives at their home.
He was a 1996 graduate of Morgan County R-I High School in Stover. James was proud to be a Stover Bulldog and proud of his hometown.
James was a member of Ironworkers Local 396 in St. Louis.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stover.
James was an avid sports fan, especially basketball and NASCAR. He loved being outdoors and had a green thumb when it came to growing plants and flowers. He also enjoyed music, and as a side vocation owned Simple Sound DJ service since 1996.
In addition to his wife and parents, James is survived by five children, Tucker James Koester, Aris Walje, Tanner Robert Koester and Jace Felix Koester all of the home and Peyton Robb of High Point; one sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Shannon Wood and their children, Caelyn and Jackson all of Strafford; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stover with Pastor Gerald Kurka officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Stover.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, April 27, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Paul Lutheran School Athletic Department.
