James Alan Danner, age 48, of Versailles, Missouri died Thursday afternoon, January 14, 2010, at the Eldon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Eldon, Missouri, under the care of the wonderful people at Hospice Compassus.
He was born February 5, 1961, in Independence, Missouri a son of Robert C. and Wilma James Danner.
James married Susan Homan on October 12, 1984, in Laurie, Missouri. They were legally separated August 2, 1995, and she survives in Versailles.
He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1978-1982. James was stationed at Camp Pendleton and served in Okinawa, the Phillippines, Guam, South Korea, Tokyo and Mt.Fuji, receiving the Good Conduct Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
He was self-employed in masonry construction for several years. Most recently he worked for B&B Pipe Line.
James was determined to overcome his illness, and defied all of the doctor's predictions of not being able to remain independent. He had only been at the care facility since January 11, 2010.
James is also survived by a daughter, Sarah Danner of Versailles and a son, Ben Danner and wife Mary Thomason Danner of Eldon; three grandchildren, Drew, Bryson and Lily Danner, one brother, Charles Danner of Columbia; two sisters, Bobbi Danner and Anita Danner Carter of Independence; two nephews, Clayton Danner of Independence and Rikki Turner of Independence; two nieces, Stephanie Danner of Jefferson City and Alyssa Danner of Eldon; also other relatives and friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Kelly Danner.
James was cremated. His children, Sarah and Ben, are planning private services at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to the James Danner Memorial Fund.
