Jack R. Francis, age 73, of rural Versailles, died Friday, March 16, 2012, at his home.
He was born March 3, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri a son of Robert Louis Sr., and Vileta Parker Francis. Jack married Darlene Marriott, and to this union two sons, Aaron and Russell were born.
He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1956-1958.
Jack was a cabinet maker by trade, owning and operating Raymore Wood Products in Raymore and Jack R. Francis and Company in Lee's Summit. He later owned and operated a music equipment store in Versailles.
Jack was an accomplished woodcarver and leather craftsman, making everything from gun stocks to holsters. He enjoyed music and was a vocalist for various bands, which played at local venues throughout Morgan County. Even though he was born in the city, his heart belonged in the rural countryside, where he could spend time outdoors watching the deer and turkey, even trying his hand at hunting with his son, Russell.
Survivors include his significant other, Charlene Lovejoy of the home; his former wife, Darlene Francis of Peculiar; three sons, Don Francis of Oklahoma; Aaron J. Francis of Harrisonville and Russell Francis and wife Robyn of Raymore; three stepsons, Orville Eissler of Rich Hill; Michael Eissler of Louisiana state and Gary Lovejoy of Greeley, Colorado; two stepdaughters, Dawna Lovejoy of Versailles and Elizabeth Eissler-Haley of Holt; two grandchildren, Jessica "Jessie" and Cale Francis; two step granddaughters, Jackie and Jessie Mayers; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Donald L. Parker and Robert L. Francis, Jr. and two sisters, Nancy E. Francis and Delores E. Montgomery.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 19, at 945 Park, located at the northwest corner of Alison Lane and Webb Road south of Stover and Versailles. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until service time. Interment, with military funeral honors, will be in the Stover Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Stover Cemetery or the charity of the donor's choice.
