Isaac Armin "I.A." Wenger, age 87, of Versailles, died Friday night, December 2, 2011, at his home.
He was born November 30, 1924, in Versailles, a son of Ike A. and Florence Kidwell Wenger. On May 1, 1949, I.A. was united in marriage to Shirley Scrivner at the Stover United Methodist Church. Shirley survives at their home.
He was raised and educated in Versailles, graduating with the class of 1943. He entered the service in August 1943 and spent 2 ½ years with the Army 87th infantry division in the European Theater. He received the Combat Infantry Medal, three battle stars and the Bronze Star.
Following his return from the service, he attended the University of Missouri, before joining his father in the family business, Wenger's Farm Equipment Company. He became sole owner of the John Deere dealership in 1961, operating it for 34 years. In 1995, the dealership was sold to Schaffter Equipment, Inc., where he continued to work for the next seven years. I.A. was passionate about his business and was well known for his reliable service and sales.
He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, past member of the Versailles Lions Club, Morgan County Fair Board and had served on the Versailles City Council.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is survived by one daughter, Teri Nations of Versailles; a granddaughter, Kim Nations of Versailles, a grandson, Travis Nations and wife Jessica of Tampa, Florida; two great grandchildren, Elliott and Andie Nations, along with other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ila Hutchison and Letha Carson.
In keeping with his wishes, he was cremated. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 8, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Eric Wright officiating. Inurnment, with military honors, will be in the Versailles Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 A.M. until service time at the church on Thursday. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Westminster Presbyterian Church or the American Diabetes Association.
