June 30, 1932 — August 18, 2013

Ingrid Gerda Ostmann Schumacher, age 81, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2013, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born June 30, 1932, in Mettmann, Germany, the oldest of four children born to Fritz and Ida Zerwas Ostmann. Ingrid graduated high school and went to technical school for business courses. She became an office manager at a large construction company in Germany, where she met her husband-to-be, Horst Schumacher, They were married on October 1, 1955, and became the parents of two daughters, Doris and Sue and one son, Scott.
Ingrid played a significant role in the building of her husband's various construction companies. She was also a room mother, Girl Scout leader and took great pleasure in her family.
After her husband's retirement, she readily transformed herself from a business woman to rancher. She learned how to buck hay and round up cattle, while always maintaining her style and poise.
When Scott was born, she focused all her energies on his upbringing and schooling, while keeping ranching as her second job.
Upon her husband's death she managed to overcome cancer and build a new life around volunteerism and friends. She took joy from her church, Parents Day Out, Meals on Wheels, attending and hosting the German Club, Drury University Women's Auxiliary and going to the Springfield Symphony.
Ingrid enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and surrounded herself with an amazing support group of friends from her various activities and from the 11 different places she called home.
She became ill with Lewy Body Dementia at an undetermined time, and was able to deal with this debilitation by keeping her sense of humor and a positive outlook at all times. She is loved by many and it has been a joy and blessing to have her grace touch the lives of all of us. She is survived by her three children, Doris Schumacher Elliott and husband Richard of Versailles; Susan Schumacher Adams of Etowah, Tennessee and Scott Schumacher of Boston, Massachusetts; one brother, Dieter Ostmann of Mettmann, Germany; one sister, Margret Pavlik of Langenfeld, Germany; five grandchildren, Sean, Tanya, Alex, Rose and Lily, two great grandchildren, Taylor and Savannah, along with other relatives and friends.
