Hugo Albert Strobel

Hugo Albert Strobel, age 75, a lifelong resident of Lohman, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2012, at St. Joseph's Bluffs in Jefferson City.
He was born March 7, 1937, on the family farm at Lohman, a son of John Georg and Anna Kathryn Plochberger Strobel. He was baptized March 22, 1937, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lohman with Albert Plochberger as his sponsor. He was confirmed April 29, 1951, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The confirmation verse chosen was Matthew 10: 32-33, "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which art in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven." Hugo was united in marriage to Gertrude Pauline Raithel on June 24, 1967, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lohman. Gert survives at their home.
He was a 1955 graduate of Russellville High School. Hugo served his country in the United States Army as a member of the 663rd Ordinance Company in Vilseck, Germany as an Ammunitions Clerk and in the Army Reserves from June 15, 1960 - June 14, 1966 .
Until his health recently failed him, he farmed with his brother Lorenz on the Strobel Brother's Farm, which achieved the century farm designation.
He was a faithful, lifetime member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lohman, serving on the church council and Stewardship committee. He was church treasurer for many years and until recently was singing in the church choir. He was active in the Freundschaft Gruppe, STARS and as coordinator of St. Paul's Lutheran Travel Group.
Hugo was active in the Lohman community, serving as secretary of Lohman Producer's Exchange for more than 45 years and on the Board of the Russellville-Lohman Fire Department for many years. He helped organize the charter and was a member of both the Lohman Lions Club and the Lohman Community Corporation.
He enjoyed a good game of pinochle and western movies, especially John Wayne. To Hugo nothing was more important than God, family and serving his fellow man.
In addition to his wife of 45 years, he is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Lorenz and Ellen Strobel of Lohman; twenty-one nieces and nephews, Elmer, James and David Weber, Marilyn Ruengert, Marvin, Richard and John Heidbreder, Martha Schenewerk, Carol Driemeier, Howard, Melvin and Eugene Strobel, Phyllis Robinson, Joyce Ittner, Harold and Mark Strobel, Linda Wozniak, Sarah Baker, Becky Verslues, Elizabeth Strobel and Barbara Snellen along with other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Oscar Strobel, three sisters, Hulda Weber, Frieda Raithel and Alvina Heidbreder, two nieces, Beverly Raithel and Mary Cox and a nephew Leonard Strobel.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 27, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lohman with Pastor Edward Merckel officiating. Interment, with military funeral honors, will be in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Lohman.
The family will receive friends from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 26, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lohman. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Perpetual Cemetery Fund or St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
