Howard Clay Hickey, age 81, of Versailles, died Sunday, December 30, 2012, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.
He was born April 2, 1931, in Miller County, a son of Clay and Cora Vaughn Hickey. On April 18, 1952, he married Marian R. Bias and to his union two children were born. She survives in Stover. On October 10, 1985, Howard married Annabelle Hibdon Merriott, who survives at their home.
Howard was an Army veteran, serving his country in the Korean War.
He was employed as a sewing machine mechanic at Tweedies Tent Factory and Primo Pants Factory, located in Versailles. He retired from Brown Shoe Factory in Versailles as a plant manager.
Howard was an avid fisherman, spending as many hours as possible with a rod and reel in his hand at the lake. He passed his love of fishing on to his son, who enjoyed the time he could spend with his dad on the water.
Howard had a passion for life and truly enjoyed every day he was given.
In addition to his wife Annabelle, he is survived by one son, Paul Hickey of Barnett; one daughter Susan Atwell of Stover; one stepson, Danny Merriott and wife Lana of Versailles; one stepdaughter, Debbie Stone and husband Howard of Eldon; three brothers, Lloyd Hickey and wife Carolyn of Eldon; Donald Hickey and wife Helen of Utah and Mitchel Hickey and wife Eleanor of Eldon; one sister, JoAnn Mode of Texas; two grandsons, Dustin Haight and Elizabeth of Stover and Willie Atwell and May of Kansas City, Kansas; two great granddaughters, Bailey and Brielle, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one great grandson, Hayden.
In keeping with his wishes, services will be private.
