Hilda K. Bell

October 31, 1931 — January 11, 2020

Hilda K. Bell, best known as "Annie" of Tipton, Missouri, at the age of 88, went home to be with her Savior on January 11, 2020, surrounded by three generations of her family. She was one of eight children born to Albert and Berta Wiedmann in Orseck, Poland.

At the age of eight, WWII broke out and she and her older siblings were taken from the home to work. After the war ended the family was reunited through the American Red Cross. Her family immigrated to the United States in 1949. She was soon followed by Samuel Klan, whom she had known as a teenager from her youth group at church in Germany. They were united in marriage in 1950.

Hilda took night classes and proudly became a United States citizen in 1958. She and Sam built their first home by hand in Prairie View, Illinois. Hilda was always a very hard worker and nailed shingles on the roof while she was 7 months pregnant. More recently, at age 80 years of age, she put up a chain link fence around her yard by hand, by herself, one post at a time. She loved her plants and flowers and was the happiest when her hands were digging in God's soil. Her beautiful blooms have been displayed in local newspapers and many times friends as well as strangers would stop by just to compliment and adore her flowers. She was also a good cook of many German foods from recipes that were passed down from many generations. She played the accordion and harmonica with a twinkle in her eye. Hilda knew the Lord and was thankful for every breath she was given.

After Samuel died in 1986, she met Henry Bell and when they were married Hilda joined him in Tipton, Missouri.

Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Berta Wiedmann; husbands Samuel Klan and Henry Bell; sons Daniel Klan at infancy and Randall Klan at age 22; sisters Alma Benefield, Berta Wiedmann at infancy; brothers Otto Wiedmann, Edward Wiedmann and Samuel Wiedmann.

Surviving Hilda "Annie" Bell are her one daughter, Linda Garbarz of Tipton, Missouri; three granddaughters Krista Peterson and husband Jay of Batavia, Illinois, Amy Garbarz and Cindi Durdle, both of Tipton; five great grandchildren, Jacob Garbarz (21), Matthew Garbarz (18), Alex Durdle (11), Gracie Durdle (10) and Carver Peterson (8); brother Emil Wiedmann and wife Monika of St. Joseph, Michigan; and sister Olga Gelzenlichter of Illinois and numerous other family members and friends.
