Herman Henry Proehl, age 92, of Versailles, died Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at Golden Age Living Center in Stover.
He was born November, 14, 1919, on the family farm in Americus, Kansas, a son of William and Bertha Newton Proehl. He married Beth Richards on April 15, 1977, and she survives at their home.
Herman grew up in Kansas. He began calling central Missouri his home in 1948, after moving to Barnett. He resided there until 1958, when he bought a farm in Stover, where he could raise Duroc hogs and cattle. He farmed in the Stover area until 1999, when at the age of 80 he retired and moved to Versailles.
Herman loved to dance, listen to country music, garden and most of all be around kids, especially his grandkids. He was a good neighbor to everyone.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Katherine Beckmann and husband Eldrid of Stover; JoAnn Proehl of Versailles; Gary Proehl and wife Patti of Versailles, Ronald Proehl of Versailles; Gailene Marriott and husband Paul of Mountain View and Larry Proehl and wife Kara of Shell Knob; one brother, Wayne Proehl and wife Donna of Emporia, Kansas; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren, also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Robert Proehl, one brother, Fred Proehl and one sister, Thelma Dewey.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 6, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with Rev. Travis Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Kipp Addition of the Stover Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association.
