Herman R. "Pete" Jones, age 84, of Versailles, died Sunday, September 30, 2012, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.
He was born June 17, 1928, in McCall Creek, Mississippi, a son of Richard Lamar and Leta Mae McGhee Jones, who preceded him in death.
He was united in marriage to Violet Nettles, and to this union two sons were born. Violet preceded him in death. On July 4, 1968, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Pete married Hazel Taylor Jefferson, who preceded him in death August 30, 1998.
Pete and Hazel moved to Versailles in 1975, from Chicago, Illinois.
On May 5, 1987, he joined the City of Versailles Police Department, working as a policeman until May of 1990. In July of 2003, he went to work for the City of Versailles as the Animal Control officer until retiring in 2008.
Survivors include, one son, Dennis K. Jones of Bethalto, Illinois; two sisters, Marteal Dunaway of Harlem, Georgia and Emma Lou Allred of River Ridge, Louisiana; a sister-in-law, Eva Andress, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, along with other relatives and many friends.
Pete was also preceded in death by one son, Gary Lynn Jones and two brothers, James and Chester Jones.
In keeping with Pete's wishes, he will be cremated. Memorial services will be in McCall Creek, Mississippi with inurnment in the Jones Family Plot of the Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery in McCall Creek.
