Helen M. Nichols, age 84, of Eldon, died Saturday, April 14, 2012, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover.
She was born November 22, 1927, in Proctor, a daughter of Ralph and Bessie Bellamy Comer, both deceased. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Vernie Marriott-to this union one daughter was born, James Ross Kays and Ray Nichols.
During her working years, Helen was employed at Vogt's Café, Primo Pants Factory and the K.C. Bifocal Plant, all located in Versailles.
She was a life member of the Rocky Mount Am. Vet. 108 Auxiliary and a life member of the VFW Post 2442 in Eldon. She was baptized at the Versailles Christian Church by Rev. Jim Kruse.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who enjoyed every minute she could spend with her family. She liked staying busy working in her yard and tending to her flower garden. She was also known as an excellent cook, who could often be persuaded to cook up a batch of her delicious fried chicken for her granddaughter Tonya.
Survivors include daughter, Jeanie Sidebottom, husband Jim, Stover; two stepsons, Duane Nichols, wife Sue, Jefferson City and Wayne Nichols, wife Karen, Pomona; brother, Ray Comer, wife Lois, Barnett; four sisters, Gene Newsom and Mick Hess, Versailles; Lydia Madole, Jefferson City and Joyce Apperson, Eldon; step-sister, Pat Thiele, LaPort City, Iowa; sister-in-law, Judy Comer, Jefferson City; two granddaughters, Julie Bahrenburg, husband Jim, Cole Camp and Tonya Young, Stover; five step grandchildren, Evelyn McHuge, husband Robert, Sturgeon; Carrie Luttrell, husband Link, Festus; Nora Buckley, husband Randy, Jackson, Tenn.; Sharon Martin, husband John and Kyle Nichols, Pomona; six great grandchildren, Logan Wells, wife Morgan, Allyson and Casey Bahrenburg and Megan and Dustin Young, twelve great grandchildren, Randy Buckley, Chad Buckley, Alex Karscig, Reid Karscig, Zachary Martin, Mary Kate and Molly Martin, Rae, Neils, Cisil, Mary and Cooper; one great-great granddaughter, Isabella Wells, and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Don Comer.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 19, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Lovena Shreve officiating. Inurnment will be in the Oak Park Addition of the Versailles Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Golden Age Living Center of the American Cancer Society.
