Gwendolyn Alyss DeMarais Williams, age 93, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at her home in Cole Camp, Missouri.
She was born June 12, 1917, in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of Philorome Peter and Alyss Helen Westgate DeMarais. On June 14, 1941, she married Harold Earl Williams who passed away September 1983 in Papua, New Guinea.
Surviving are a daughter, Sharon Williams (Ronald) Foraker, Cole Camp, Missouri; son, Philip Wayne (Emily) Williams, Maryville, Illinois; sister, Virginia Chigaros Legner Oak Lawn, Illinois; grandchildren, Peter Williams, Steven Williams, Laura Weisgerber and Jennifer Johnson, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Marshall P. DeMarais, and sisters, Madalyn Fern Boone and Betty Jean Kirz.
She attended Moody Bible Institute. Her early years were spent doing mission work, Child Evangelism backyard Bible Clubs and teaching Sunday School for more than 60 years. She was active in Christian Women's Clubs. She and Harold were short term missionaries from 1982 to 1984 in Papua, New Guinea, which was a lifelong goal. In October of 1995, Gwen received recognition from the Staff of Freedom Flyers Ministries for her work with (hardened) women inmates.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lincoln, Missouri.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, January 24, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with Pastor Ron Griffith officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home on Monday.
Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Edmonson Cemetery in Edmonson, Missouri. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Lincoln.
