Grant J. Seidel

May 8, 1943 — September 9, 2014

Grant J. Seidel, age 71, of Lohman, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at his home. He was born May 8, 1943, in Jefferson City, the youngest son of Hadley E. and Josephine
Fischer Seidel. On May 30, 1943, Grant was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church-Stringtown in Lohman and confirmed April 14, 1957, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson City. The confirmation verse chosen was Psalm 37:5, "Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass." On August 22, 1970, he was united in marriage to Barbara Holzleitner at Trinity Lutheran Church in Russellville, who survives at their home. Grant attended school at Harmony Grove, St. John's Lutheran-Stringtown, Trinity Lutheran School and was a 1961 graduate of Jefferson City High School. He also attended Lincoln University for a short time. He was a lifelong farmer, raising crops and cattle on his farm in the Lohman area. Grant and Barbara had been faithful members of St. John's Lutheran Church-Stringtown, where he served as Elder, Sunday school superintendent and on the Evangelism board. On January 28, 2007, they became members of the Peace Lutheran Church in Jefferson City, where he served on the Evangelism board. One of the things he enjoyed, with the other members, was changing the message on the church sign for the many travelers that passed by the church each day to read. He also served on the board of the Cole County Farm Bureau.
In addition to his wife of 44 years, he is survived by two children and their spouses, Vanessa and Dwayne Johnson of O'Fallon and Warren and Jodi Seidel of Manchester; one brother and sister-in-law, H.F. and Doris Seidel of Lohman; five grandchildren, Rachel Seidel, Lillian and Reese Johnson and Joel and Nathan Seidel, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Grant was preceded in death by parents and a nephew and godchild, Perry Seidel. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Saturday, September 13, at the Peace Lutheran Church in Jefferson City with Rev. Jeffery Merseth officiating. Interment will be in the Peace Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 13, at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Peace Lutheran Church Improvement Fund.
