Glenn Wilbert Oberbeck

Glenn W. Oberbeck, age 89, of Lohman, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at St. Marys Health Center in Jefferson City.
He was born October 22, 1920, in Jackson, Missouri, a son of Otto and Rosie Curry Oberbeck, both deceased. On October 11, 1944, in Jackson, Glenn was united in marriage to Rosalie Abernathy, who preceded him in death May 12, 2006.
He was an Army Veteran, serving his country from 1941-1945, in the 30th Field Artillery, with tours of duty in Alaska, the Aleutian Islands and in Germany. Following his honorable discharge from the service, Glenn went to work as a mechanic for the Missouri State Highway Department. He later became an equipment inspector for the Sikeston/Boot-heel area of the state. He transferred to Jefferson City where he was promoted to equipment supervisor for the entire state and retired from the Office of Equipment and Procurement. Following a brief time of retirement, Glenn went to work for Knapheide in Jefferson City, retiring full time in the spring of 2009.
He was baptized as an infant and later confirmed on April 14, 1935, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Jackson. He was a longtime, faithful member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson City, where was active in many organizations within the church. For the past few years he was a member of the St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Lohman. For many years he served as a councilman and then mayor for the City of Lohman. He had been active in the Boy Scouts and was a member of the Roscoe Enloe American Legion Post 5 in Jefferson City. Glenn enjoyed camping, tinkering with motors, restoring tractors, working in the garden and tending to his yard. He could build almost anything he set his mind to, including his home in Lohman.
Survivors include one daughter, Glenda Hake (Herbert Kreter) of Lohman; daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Oberbeck of Huntington Beach, California; seven grandchildren, Michelle Collins (Darren), Mitchell Plochberger (Laura), Shannon Raison (Raitis), Sean Oberbeck, Kelly Oberbeck (fiancee Trisha Howard), Jaimie Oberbeck (fiancee Amanda Watkins) and Kevin Oberbeck, five great grandchildren, Bethanee Plochberger, Trevor and Garrett Collins and Trenton and Lyndli Thompson; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Glenn was also preceded in death by one son, Gary W. Oberbeck, one grandson, George W. Oberbeck, two brothers, Fred Oberbeck and Victor "Eppie" Oberbeck and one sister, Rosemund Meier.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 17, at the St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Lohman with Pastor Edward Merckel officiating. Interment, with military funeral honors, will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens in Jefferson City.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Friday, July 16 at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Pauls Stained-Glass Window Fund, the St. Pauls Lutheran Cemetery Fund or the charity of the donor's choice.
