Glen W. Coit, age 87, of Stover, died Sunday, August 8, 2010, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.
He was born May 19, 1923, in Stover, a son of Ben and Viola Wahlers Coit. On November 30, 1946, Glen was united in marriage to Helen Jewel Riggs in Sedalia. Helen preceded him in death November 6, 2007.
Glen was an Army veteran, serving his country during World War II, receiving his honorable discharge on December 24, 1945, with the rank of Sergeant.
He worked at the Kansas City Bifocal plant in Versailles for many years. However, his greatest enjoyment came from the time he could spend on his farm.
He was a faithful member of the Stover United Methodist Church until his health failed him.
Survivors include three sons, Jesse Braden of Independence; Phillip Braden of Cross Timbers and Ben Coit and wife Kathy of Wichita, Kansas; three sisters, Melba Akers of Independence; Patricia Rabe of Eldorado Springs and Mavis Garrison of Lee's Summit; seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, his first great-great granddaughter is due in January, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty Goodman.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 12, at the Stover United Methodist Church with Rev. Diane Cutler officiating. Interment, with military honors rendered by Galloway-Martens American Legion Post 343 in Stover, will be in the Stover Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 until service time at the Stover United Methodist Church.
