George Antone Romig

George A. Romig, age 87, of Tipton, passed away Saturday morning, August 13, 2016, at Tipton Manor Nursing Home in Tipton. He was born December 3, 1928 in Beaman, MO, son of Jesse O. and Clara (Beck) Romig.

On December 30, 1950, he married Annalean Schoen, at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Tipton, MO, who survives of the home. He and his wife eventually purchased a farm in the Syracuse area where they resided for 51 years. Of this marriage six children were born: Tom (Carol) Romig, Lenny (Wilda) Romig, Vince (Mary) Romig, Gina (Tim) Huesgen, all of Syracuse; Rod (Karen) Romig, Tipton, and Tim Romig and his fiancé, St. John Simms, New York, New York.

George attended grade school in Otterville, MO. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950-52. He was also a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

During his lifetime he worked at Pittsburgh Corning Glass Factory and Montgomery Wards in Sedalia. He later worked at Ketterlin Construction in Tipton, building and setting up houses. He later worked for Howard Construction Company. He and his wife also owned and operated The Lucky Six convenience store in Syracuse, for 18 years until his retirement.

George enjoyed farming and mowing yards, pitching horseshoes, dancing, playing cards, and visiting with family and friends. He never met a stranger and especially enjoyed the small children. His favorite foods included pork and beans and ice cream.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mary Margaret Williams, a brother Kenneth Romig, a half-brother Bill Romig, and one step-grandchild.

He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 11 step-great- grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Tipton.

The Rosary will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at Meisenheimer Funeral Home, 545 Highway 50 E, Tipton, with visitation to follow from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Burial will be in St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrews School or the Tipton Nutrition Center.
