Gene Stockton

Myrl Valjeane "Gene" Stockton age 81, passed away Thursday, August 5, 2010, at his home, following a battle with Alzheimer's Disease and cancer.
He was born February 2, 1929, in Washburn, a son of Frank and Cora Davis Stockton. On March 28, 1975, he was married to Candace Loesch Beck, who survives at the home.
When Gene was ten years old, his family moved to Marshfield. He graduated from Marshfield High School and attended Southwest Mo. State College in Springfield. He worked in the family canning factory business, the family locker and meat processing operation and operated a dairy farm in Webster County. He later was employed as an auditor in the State Auditor's Office, the Missouri Elections and Commission and the Division of Highway Safety. After retiring from the state, he became the Business Manager for Tarkio College. He also owned MGS Books, a college textbook distributorship; operated a farm and raised Black Angus Cattle. He loved the outdoors, his farm, his German Shepherd dogs and training and riding horses.
He was an active member and past president of the Marshfield Jaycees, Association of Government Accountants, Missouri Cattleman's Association, National Riflemen's Association and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson City. He was honored as a Master Dairyman in Webster County and received the Cole County Soil and Water Conservation District's outstanding accomplishment award.
Survivors, along with his wife include five children: Lynette Miller of Elkland; Chuck Stockton and wife Judy of Elkland; Cindy Barcomb and husband Bob of Nixa; Terri Kelly and husband Dan of Caldwell, Idaho and Larry Stockton and wife Andee of Meridian, Idaho; two stepsons, Steven E. Beck and wife Becky of Kansas City and Stanley Beck of Jefferson City; a brother, Laverne Stockton of Marshfield; a sister, Willodean "Deanie" DeFriese and husband Bill of Whittier, California; his grandchildren, Krystal Marlin and husband Caleb, Lindsay Barcomb, Jessica Davis and husband Blake, Amy Barcomb, Michael Stockton and wife Amy, Mandy Stockton, Weston Stockton, Janae Stockton, Cole Stockton and Wyatt Kelly; four step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also, surviving are special cousins, Helen Jones of Springfield and Naomi Carter of Hartville, numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother Davis Leneil Stockton and a sister Clara Ferne Johnson.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 9, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson City with Pastor Sam Powell officiating. Friends will be received from 9:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. Monday at the church. Interment will be in the Hawthorn Memorial Gardens in Jefferson City. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Calvary Lutheran High School or Heisinger Hope Foundation Benevolent Fund.
