Gene H. Newman, age 67, of Stover, died Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at his home.
He was born April 9, 1943, in Stover, a son of Aubry L. and Clara L. Nelson Newman, both deceased. On November 19, 1961, in Jamesport, Gene was united in marriage to Betty Lou Lent. Betty survives at their home.
He was a 1961 graduate of Stover High School.
Gene managed Wright Bait Shop in Stover. He later purchased the business and changed the name to N and N Bait Shop, which he owned and operated for several years.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stover. Gene was caretaker and sexton of the Pleasant Union Cemetery near Stover until his health failed him.
Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was an accomplished bow hunter and has several trophy deer to show for it. He also enjoyed shooting his muzzle loader.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Russell and Janice Newman of Lincoln; Randall and Bobbie Jo Newman of Cole Camp and David and Villy Newman of Stover; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Christine Newman and Elmer and Debi Newman all of Stover; one sister, Donie Anderson of Stover; nine grandchildren, Natasha Dawn, Lisa Clara, Morgan Whitney, Michele Delana, Jessica Brianna, Amanda Kaye, Chelsey Jean, Alexander Matthew and Nicolas Souvanh, one great granddaughter, Kylie Skye, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Gene was also preceded in death by five brothers, Clifford, J.C., Virl, Robert and his twin who died at birth and two sisters, Betty Newman and Cresteen Newman.
Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Sunday, June 6, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stover with Pastor Cecil Murdock officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Union Cemetery near Stover with Pastor Johnny Medlock officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Saturday, June 5, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover.
