Gary Lee Silvey, Sr., age 70, of Stover, died Friday, April 8, 2011, at St. Marys Health Center in Jefferson City.
He was born November 19, 1940, in St. Joseph, a son of Arnold Leroy "Roy" and Helen Kirkland Silvey, both deceased. On August 15, 1959, Gary was united in marriage to Rebecca K. Venable at the Kinghill Christian Church in St. Joseph. Becky survives at their home.
Gary was a member of Local # 98, in St. Joseph, where he began as a painter. He retired in 1999, as business manager for the Union, after more than 20 years of employment.
In 1985, Gary and Becky purchased property in the Little Buffalo area near the Lake of the Ozarks. They spent many weekends at the lake where they could fish and enjoy the great outdoors. In 2000, they left St. Joseph and moved to the Stover community, where they loved to spend time with their family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children and their spouses, Christine and Adam Booth of Wathena, Kansas; Gary L. Jr., and Stacey Silvey of St. Joseph; Heather and Jay Burton of St. Joseph and Matthew and Danielle Silvey of St. Joseph; one brother, Carroll Dean Silvey of St. Joseph; one sister, Beverly Crist of St. Joseph; nine grandchildren, Codey, Kyle and Elijah Burton, Tessa and Garrett Booth, Kaylin and Jarred Silvey and Aubrey and Rebecca Silvey, also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Gary was also preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold and John Silvey.
In keeping with his wishes, he was cremated. A celebration of Gary's life will be held at a later date.
