Fern Nolting

November 25, 1923 — February 8, 2016

Fern D. Nolting was born near Stover, MO on November 23, 1923. She was the daughter of Edward and Augusta Kipp, was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in Stover, and attended high school there where she graduated in 1941. Following graduation she worked for North American Aviation, building B-25 bombers used during WWII. After being transferred to Dallas, Texas in 1943 to build Air Force B-24 bombers, she enlisted in 1944 in the Army Medical Corp and was based in Lowell, Mass. where she cared for wounded warriors returning from the European theatre. After honorable discharge in 1946, she married her high school sweetheart, Marcus Nolting, who had also served in the Army, the European theatre. They moved to St. Louis, where the jobs were at that time, and had two children, Karen McClure, who now lives in Denver, CO. and Michael Nolting, who lives in Sioux City, Nebraska. Their children, their athletic endeavors, and their hardworking jobs were the focus of their lives. She worked for Rexall Drug Company in St. Louis for 35 years, and then for Dobbs catering until 1985 when she retired to be home with her husband Marcus. In 2006, after the death of her husband, she returned to Stover, to live in the home where she had grown up, delivered her daughter on the kitchen table, and spent many weekends visiting her parents and friends. She lived there until a broken hip in 2015 brought her to Golden Age in Stover, an excellent facility, where she lived until transferring to the MO Veteran's Home in Warrensburg, where she also received very compassionate care. She was a physically active woman all her life, loved and cared for all her family and friends, loved catching the biggest fish in the lake, and loved "walking the legs off" anyone who would go with her. We loved her energy, her humor, her opinion on life, which was often quite perceptive, and her energy. WE will miss her. She is survived be two children, four grandchildren and five, going on six great grandchildren.
