Evelyn May Shikles

Evelyn May Scott Shikles, age 92, of Russellville, passed away, Sunday, February 5, 2012, at Adams Street Place in Jefferson City.
She was born October 10, 1919, near Russellville, a daughter of Archie and Edna Morris Scott.
On February 9, 1946, Evelyn was united in marriage to Virgil Shikles, who preceded her in death August 12, 1969.
She attended Cottage Grove elementary school and graduated in 1936 from Russellville High School. She also attended Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, where she obtained her teaching certificate. For a few years she taught at the Mt Carmel and Pleasant Hill schools, both in Russellville.
For many years she was employed at Unitog, first in Kansas City and later in Warrensburg. After returning to Russellville, she worked for the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, retiring in 1985.
Evelyn was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Russellville.
She enjoyed doing embroidery work and quilting. However, to most of her family she was known as a care-giver, first to her mother, then her husband and most recently her son.
Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, James Lowell and Wanda Scott of Columbia; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and Roy Jobe of Russellville; Loretta and Herbert Raithel of Russellville and Frances and Curt "Tom" Taggart of Jefferson City; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Gary Shikles on February 3, 2004, one brother, Forrest Scott and three sisters, Ethelyn Scott, Nelda Smith and Donna Sue Scott.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church near Russellville with Rev. Alan Earls officiating. Interment will be in the Enloe Cemetery west of Russellville.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Russellville Baptist Church or Hospice Compassus.
