Emogene "Gean" Capps

May 7, 1935 — September 21, 2010

Emogene "Gean" Capps, age 75, of Stover, died Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at her home.
She was born May 7, 1935, in the Little Buffalo area in Morgan County, a daughter of Herbert and Helen Mae Shockley Braden., who are deceased.
On January 10, 1953, "Gean" was united in marriage to Linney "Jr." Capps, at the home of Rev. Jim Delong. "Jr." survives at their home.
She worked in the cafeteria for the Morgan County R-I School District in Stover. "Gean" later was employed at the Stover Developmental Center, where she worked for many years before retiring.
She was an avid reader, and even with her eyesight failing, managed to keep her love of books alive through auditory tapes from the Wolfner Library reading program for the blind. She enjoyed her flowers, especially roses and when she was able, working on her embroidery. She was always ready to travel, and was particularly fond of the trips taken through the southern United States. "Gean" was also an exceptional cook, who enjoyed preparing meals for her family.
In addition to her husband of 57 years, she is survived by three daughters, Gail Capps and Lana Capps, both of Columbia and Terri Black of Versailles; one brother, James Braden of Eldon; two sisters-in-law, Loretta Hankins of Sedalia and Elwanda Santiago of Colorado Springs, Colorado; four grandchildren, Kristin Morris, Jamie Brown, Jessica Wilson and Drew Capps, three great grandchildren, Matthew and Lexie Morris and Resee Brown, also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A grave side service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 24, at the Stover Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Barker officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 P.M. Friday, September 24, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Wolfner Library Trust Fund, PO Box 387, Jefferson City, MO 65102.
