Elsie M. Fluegel, age 99, lifelong resident of Russellville, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2016, at Heisinger Bluffs in Jefferson City, where she had been only for one day.
She was born January 9, 1917, on the family farm in Russellville the daughter of William and Minnie Strobel Bates. Elsie was united in marriage to Edgar H. Fluegel on September 27, 1941, in Lohman. Edgar preceded her in death October 19, 2005.
She was a graduate of Russellville High school, where she was a member of the women's basketball team.
Elsie was a homemaker, busy raising her two daughters in the same home she grew up in.
She was a lifelong, faithful member of the Cole Spring Baptist Church in Russellville; assisting in many of the church activities and active in the WMU.
She loved being on the farm, where she could work in her flower garden and help Edgar. She was an avid Mizzou Basketball fan and in later years stayed busy putting together puzzles and doing word search games. Her greatest enjoyment came from her family, who faithfully cared for her so she could remain in her home.
Survivors include; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Harold Graham of Russellville; son-in-law, Lowell Scott and his wife Wanda of Columbia; two grandchildren and their spouses, Kim and Keith Kampeter and Kevin and Janeen Scott; three great grandchildren, Karrington and Kendrick Scott and Adam Kampeter, brothers-in-law, Roy Fluegel and wife Margie of Jefferson City and Gordon Case of Hartsburg; a sister-in-law, Ramona Fluegel of Centertown, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Carolyn Scott, two brothers-in-law, Oscar and Walter Fluegel and two sisters-in-law, Esther Case and Lydia Fluegel.
Funeral services will be 10:30 Tuesday, October 4, at the Cole Spring Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Webb officiating. Interment will be in the Enloe Cemetery west of Russellville.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, October 3, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. Memorial contributions are suggested to Cole Spring Baptist Church or the Hospice of Jefferson City.
