Elmer H. Chiles

Elmer H. Chiles age 87, of Florence, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014, at his home. He was born April 14, 1927, in Montrose, a son of Elmer T. and Artie Mae Davis Chiles. On June 13, 1945, Elmer was united in marriage to Betty Dillon, who survives at their home. He retired from the Sedalia Parks Department, where he was part of the maintenance crew. He also worked on small engines out of his home in Florence. He attended the Florence United Methodist Church. Elmer enjoyed tinkering with small engines, sitting on his deck visiting with friends, but most of all being with his family. In addition to his wife of 68 years, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Gary Nolting of Versailles and Susan and Randy Smith of Smithton; five grandchildren, Clara Luetjen and husband Ernie, Randy and Stephen Nolting, Stephanie Bass and husband Brendan, Sean Smith and wife Amanda, six great grandchildren, Cole, Tiffany, Britttney, Eric, Ashley and Damon, two great-great grandchildren, along with other relatives and friends. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Harold Dean Chiles, one brother, Lester K. Chiles and one grandson, Nolan Chiles. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, at the Florence United Methodist Church with Pastor Jorge Arvelo officiating. Interment will be in the Florence United Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover. Memorial contributions are suggested to Oxford Home Health.
