Edna Margaret Roten

May 9, 1931 — May 7, 2020

Edna Margaret Roten, age 88, formerly of Peoria, Illinois, passed away at Katy Manor in Pilot Grove, Missouri late Thursday evening, May 7, 2020.

The youngest of 11 children, Edna was born May 9, 1931 in Belton, Bell County, Texas to Joseph Franklin and Lillian Viola Griffin. She graduated high school as valedictorian of her class. On a full scholarship, Edna attended college for one semester and then was called home to help on the family farm due to her father’s failing health. Shortly thereafter she met and married Emanuel Kester and they were blessed with four children. When she was 37 she completed a certificate in secretarial work at Midstate College of Commerce gaining employment shortly after. She also worked for many years in furniture sales at JC Penney.

On 1969 Edna married Lee Roten in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This union brought the number of children in the family to six. Being a mother, she felt, was always her most important job. One of her favorite things to do was to go fishing with her children and friends.

Preceding Edna M. Roten in death was her husband Lee Roten, who passed away July 23, 1990; her parents Frank and Lillian Griffin; and nine siblings.

Edna is survived by her son J. Steven Kester of Thomasville, GA; daughter Sharon Shannon and her husband Dan of Star, ID; son Stan Kester and his wife Denice of Bartonville, IL; son M. Scott Kester and his wife Michele of Columbia, MO; Stepson Steven Roten of Castle Rock, CO and stepdaughter Pam Filstrup and her husband Jim of Concord, CA; 19 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren; her sister Mozell of Fairfield, TX and a number of nieces and nephews.

Per Edna’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
