Dorothy Jeanette Ries, age 95, of Pilot Grove, MO, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Katy Manor. Born on August 8, 1929, to Leslie and Katie (Babbitt) Haley in Pilot Grove, Dorothy embraced a life rooted in family, faith, and a deep connection to the land.
On July 27, 1952, Dorothy married Clarence Herman Ries, and together they built a life centered on farming, hard work, and community. Clarence preceded her in death, yet his memory remained a guiding presence in her life.
Dorothy was a devoted member of Wesley Chapel, where her faith and love for music found a beautiful outlet. A self-taught pianist, she shared her talent generously, playing hymns for church services, weddings, and funerals until the age of 92. Her music brought comfort and joy to many, a testament to her dedication to her church and community.
Growing up on a farm and marrying a farmer, Dorothy understood and cherished the rhythms of rural life. She took pride in milking cows and mowing grass—tasks that connected her to the earth and the legacy of her family's hard work.
Dorothy’s decision to donate her body to science was a reflection of her selflessness and desire to help others, a choice she held with great pride.
She is survived by her children, Jerry Ries of Jefferson City, John Ries of Dallas, TX, Kathy Grissum (Mike Lewis) of Pilot Grove, and Carol Ries of Boonville; her three grandchildren, Tim Grissum (Rebecca Wolf), Katie Grissum (Michael Neubauer), and Rusty Grissum (Katie); and her great-granddaughter, Chloe Neubauer.
In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her siblings, Marshall Ray Haley, James Leslie Haley, Mary Ellen Barron, and Kathryn Schupp.
A memorial service to celebrate Dorothy's remarkable life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Wesley Chapel, officiated by Rev. Dan Page. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Wesley Chapel or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meisenheimer-Page-Dady Funeral Home, Pilot Grove, MO.
Dorothy Jeanette Ries leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and dedication—a life lived with grace and generosity. Her memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate to know her.
