Dorothy Arlene Milligan, age 74, of Stover, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover.
She was born September 7, 1941, in Stover, a daughter of Homer and Arlene Elda Tagtmeyer Gerlt. She was baptized September 13, 1941 and confirmed April 3, 1955 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stover. The confirmation verse chosen was II Corinthians 5:15, "And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again."
Dorothy attended St. Paul's Lutheran School and was a 1959 graduate of Stover High School.
On June 12, 1960, Dorothy was united in marriage to George W Milligan, who survives at their home.
Dorothy was a cook, working at Ashland Day Care in Ashland, Rock Bridge High School in Columbia and retiring as a demo rep with Schnucks Grocery also in Columbia.
She was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stover.
Dorothy loved to go fishing, she and George spent numerous hours at Finger Lakes near Columbia, where many times she brought in the bigger catch. She enjoyed mushroom hunting, and traveling, visiting 19 countries outside the United States. Her greatest enjoyment came from being with her family, who cared for her faithfully throughout her illness.
In addition to her husband of 55 years, Dorothy is survived by three children, Tammy Milligan Fisher of Petersburg, Missouri; Debbie Milligan of Dallas, Texas and Michael Milligan of Houston, Texas; a brother Roger Gerlt and wife Margaret of Lakeland, Florida; a sister, Margaret Friedly of Stover; one grandson, Christopher Fisher and wife Laura of Columbia; two great granddaughters, Sophia Ellen and Kaylee Bree Fisher, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Robert Gerlt and brother-in-law, Ross Friedly, and a nephew Rodney Friedly.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 22, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stover with Pastor Gerald Kurka officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Stover.
A Prayer service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with visitation following until 7:00 p.m.
