Dorothy A. "Dot" Meredith, age 88, of Stover, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover.
She was born August 24, 1922, in Kansas City, Kansas, a daughter of Edward and Etta Krebs, both deceased. She married James Meredith in 1950, at the Grandview Christian Church near Kansas City. They were happily married for more than 25 years, before he preceded her in death in 1976.
Dot and James resided in Argentine, Kansas, where she began selling AVON products. In 1970, they moved to Florida where she continued to sell AVON, while her husband worked at a nearby Naval base until his death.
Dot remained in Florida for the next few years until a call from her mother prompted her to move to Gravois Mills. In 1988 she and her sister began working together in the dog kennel business, until she decided it was time to try something else.
For the next few years Dot remained in the Gravois Mills area, staying busy doing odd jobs and bowling at Tiger Lanes in Versailles. In 1995, she moved to the Golden Age Living Center in Stover, where she soon became "house mom" to the staff and residents. Dot truly enjoyed her time at Golden Age. She stayed busy visiting with the staff and residents and putting together jigsaw puzzles, which were transformed into works of framed art and have been displayed throughout the home.
She also kept busy by attending the First Baptist Church in Stover and being the unofficial greeter of the dining hall.
Survivors include one niece, Dixie Wood of Afton, Oklahoma; four great nieces and two great nephews, Linda Harrigan, Diana Jones, Michael Ackerson, Karen Biondi, Sharon Maxville and Brian Ackerson, also 25 great-great nieces and nephews, and 30 great-great-great nieces and nephews, along with her family at the Golden Age Living Center.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Smothers and Billie Krebs.
