Dorothy L. Comstock

Dorothy L. Comstock, age 89, of Versailles, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2015, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, with her family by her side.
She was born December 17, 1925, in Versailles a daughter of William Louis and Carrie Hedrick Martschinsky. On March 28, 1959, in Versailles, Dorothy was united in marriage to Alan A. Comstock, who preceded her in death September 7, 1999.
As a young woman, Dorothy moved to Kansas City, where she worked as a waitress for a short time and then as a "Rosie the Riveter" at North American Aviation. This quote attributed to her appears on page 130 in the book A Mouthful of Rivets. "Learning to be a riveter was simple for me; I crochet a lot and work with my hands a lot. It was real easy for me."
Following the war, Dorothy moved to St. Louis where she worked for a short time; then returned to Versailles where she worked at Primo Pants Factory. After her marriage she helped her husband in his well-drilling business and later worked at Amex and retired from Gates Corporation.
Dorothy was an accomplished seamstress, sewing, quilting and crocheting many gifts for family and friends. She enjoyed making big family dinners and working in her garden. However, her greatest enjoyment came from her family. She was proud of her children and grandchildren and looked forward to spending time with them.
Survivors include five children and their spouses, Jim "Earl" and Karen Poole of Denton, Texas; Rodney Comstock of Versailles; Bertha and Roger Thyng of Camdenton; Belinda and Troy Nichols and Kimberly and Scott Hoffa all of Versailles; a son-in-law, Steve Trotter of Versailles; a brother, Raymond Martschinsky of Texas; a sister, Mildred Jenkins of Decatur, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren, James Poole, Jasen Trotter and wife Carla, Brandy Coffman and boyfriend Chris Ianke, Tara Trotter and companion Nick Riter, Nicholas Evans and fiancée Ashley Zurmiller, Amanda Mullins and husband Jeremy, Laura Coons and husband Tony, Chase Evans, Cody Nichols and fiancée Michelle Curtis, Rachel Rush and husband Richard, Ryan Hoffa and wife Karen, Derek Hoffa and wife Stephanie, Corey Hoffa and wife Emily and Carrie Hoffa, twenty-four great grandchildren, Jesse, Jimmie, Ericka, Brianna, Steven, Michael, Hunter, Dakota, Justin, Braden, Jimmy, Nicholas Jr., Isaiah, Ashton, Violet, Evan, William, Adyson, Riley, Wyatt, Kennedie, Lillian, Eli and three more due this summer, three great-great grandchildren, Mason, Gage and Brooklyn, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Brenda Trotter, a grandson, J.J. Yoder and three sisters, Flora Mae Martschinsky, Marguerite Comstock and Velma Miller.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles. Private graveside services will be held in the Versailles Cemetery with Dr. Todd Forman officiating. Her grandchildren served as casket bearers.
