Doris Lorraine Schad, age 76, of Independence, died Friday, June 25, 2010, at The Groves in Independence.
She was born March 30, 1934, in Stover, a daughter of George and Wilhelmina "Minnie" Alpers Beckmann. She was baptized April 15, 1934, and confirmed March 30, 1947, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Stover. Her memory verse was II Corinthians 5:15, "He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again."
Doris married Wallace M. "Bill" Schad, October 2, 1971, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kansas City. Bill preceded her in death March 26, 2009.
She worked in the Sales Information System division of Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, retiring after 38 years of employment.
She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Independence.
Doris was a devoted wife. She enjoyed the many trips that she and Bill took, as well as the time she could spend working in her flower garden.
She is survived by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Eldrid and Katheryn Beckmann of Stover and Harold Beckmann of Kansas City; one sister, Ilene Behnke of Kansas City; three stepdaughters, Donna Homer, Vicki Smith and Lisa Schad and their families, also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Doris was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Wilmont Behnke.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, at the St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Stover with Rev. Cecil Murdock officiating. Interment will be in the St. Pauls Lutheran Cemetery in Stover.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Messiah Lutheran Church or School in Independence or the St. Pauls Lutheran Church or School in Stover.
